Blake Wedding News

News flash, according to Guez and TJ:

All signs point to Blake's wedding being in LaGrange the last Saturday in July (July 26). According to Guez, invites are forthcoming, but he said the wedding would have around 150 people, or "the whole town of LaGrange". I don't know if anyone else can even consider that far ahead, but it just so happens that my ACE summer ends that Friday, and I would be driving through LaGrange on the 26th even if I didn't have a reason to pull over for a bit that afternoon. Having missed Mike's wedding, I hope that this one works out similarly for others.

Season Recap

Above, you'll see the final 6 Bishop Dunne falcons. Keep in mind that #41, the tall kid in the red undershirt, was ineligible for most of the season as well. Eventually, the parents decided to stop making the joke that I should shave my beard and suit up and play power forward in the 7th grade league. I know I've been pretty mum on the postings. The season just concluded last week, and our bubble burst with a 29-18 defeat in the last week of the season, falling to 3-9 and 9th place, missing the 8 team tourney field. The season's major problems are thus:
- Academic ineligibility (teachers)
- Lack of rebounding (size)
- Horrible coaching (my assistant's fault)
As you can see, I pretty much deserve none of the blame.

One week until Chicago! Get the Guinness funnels ready ...

I don't know if others have heard this, but here goes: According to the Great Satan, Blake Hartz is engaged to Jen ? (well, Hartz). I haven't heard anything from Blake since he went to Maryland, but if you have or will in the future, wish him well.

Here's the latest on the 7th grade Bishop Dunne blue team:

After a 1-1 start, we faced 3 straight games against undefeated (read: rich, white schools) teams. We played two 2 weeks ago and got beat by 30 and 20. Not good times. After that, we faced our toughest loss of the season, report cards. One week into the 3rd marking period I have 2 kids (starting guard, power forward) on the school's ineligibility list and a 3rd (starting center, only kid with any size) whose mom has determined that his grades should be better and it's the basketball team's fault that they are not. So our team of 9 is now 6, with a 5'2" (trust me, it's short even for 7th grade) "center" and no bench.

We lose by 20 again Saturday, but those little buggers ran their hearts out. Coming into the game against 0-4 St. Thomas Aquinas (read: huge vag), I knew that this game would be our best shot at getting a 2nd win. However, Mr. Cody's Explorer had other ideas, as 1 of our 6 players was stranded with a flat tire. The 5 remaining players took the court with great heart and vigor, and after chucking up some 3's we actually took the lead. It may have been 7th-grade basketball, but when we closed out the 4th quarter and held on to a 41-36 lead, I was pumped.

Pizza Hut is currently running an ad that contains "30 Minute Abs" and a BFD (big fantastic? deal). When Pizza Hut stays open til 3 on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, I'll call BS.

Dallas is threatened ...

... with a morning of RAIN! It's 35 degrees and raining, and the news is out-of-control. While I admit I went to sleep last night dreaming of a delayed start or cancellation, I now accept that at 35 degrees IT'S TOO WARM FOR ICE OR SNOW! Some people here could use that simple lesson in water, they're nuts.

... everywhere a sign. This is basically a compilation of a few things I've been meaning to post. First off, I was at a Mavs game before Christmas and saw a bunch of things in the arena that made me chuckle. First, the monument to Brett Hull's skate-in-the-crease and the heartbreak of Buffalo (it's the black banner in the middle):

Also, there is a sign at one end of the American Airlines Center that is the funniest one I've seen since the great Pedrow Chiropractic: Fixing Lower Back Pain for 25 years sign. Get Fixed!

And finally, you may have heard Chili's new ad campaign: "Pepper in the fun!" Royalties shall be made out to The Imperial Dictator Maarup XVIII. The checks are in the mail.

As I look over these pics, I realize they're pretty tough to make out. Trust me though, 3 classics, and a Mavs win to boot (Free Tacos from Taco Bueno!)
